Michael Austin White. Week 37 + 38

Baby: Our baby boy is as big as romaine lettuce and a winter melon these weeks, measuring about 18.9-19.6 inches long.

Our next OB appointment is Tuesday and they will measure Michael Austin again then. I'm very interested to see how close their measurement is with his actual birth weight.

Symptoms & Sleep: Other than the dreaded end of pregnancy constipation due to the slowing down of my digestive system I haven't had any other symptoms. No heartburn (since around Christmas), no swelling and no back pain (only lower pelvic pressure)... I can't really complain. Other than being super uncomfortable from my large belly I feel great overall. I have had such an amazing pregnancy and feel incredibly blessed by that.

Sleep is still the same, not much of it. It's so hard to get comfortable and when I finally do it's time to empty my bladder. Usually 3-4 times a night.

Exercise: I ran for the first time since I was 11 weeks pregnant this week and it was AMAZING! I didn't run but a mile and a half or so but it was definitely what I needed to assure myself that getting back into my running routine is not going to be as hard as I thought it would be. Since I am no longer worried about my cervix dilating too early I felt like it was a safe choice. I'm actually having the opposite problem, my cervix isn't dilating. They checked it at my 36, 37 & 38 week appointment and I am still at 0cm.

Weight: I weighed myself at 38.5 weeks and I have gained exactly 30 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. Since I'm being induced next week at 39.5 weeks this was my last time to weigh myself. I won't weigh myself again until postpartum. I am very happy with my body and myself for staying healthy during this time, it wasn't easy. There were times that I just wanted to eat whatever I wanted, not that I didn't give into treating myself here and there. But instead of indulging in a high calorie or high sodium lunch that would make me feel like crap later in the day, I opt for a soup and sandwich or a salad and fruit. I do believe that making health conscious choices are what helped me to have such a great pregnancy.

Cravings/Food: I actually wake up craving water, not coffee like I did back in the day. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to my small cup of half-caff every morning but a cold bottle of water is really what I want right when I wake up.

Every Wednesday after my weekly OB appointment I stop and get a milkshake or Blizzard. That is my sweet treat for the week :-)

Doctor's appointments: As mentioned above at 35 weeks my OB appointments went to weekly. I don't mind them at all, I love having an ultrasound every week and seeing little man on the big screen. Because I'm 35 (35 & older is considered "high risk" for pregnancy in the OB world) I have a Biophysical Profile and NST (fetal non-stress test) every week as well. So my appointments are usually about 2 hours long.

Clothes: I've started to put all of my maternity clothes in another closet, I'm so done with them. We have a love hate relationship with each other. Although they have been really comfortable to wear and I highly recommend splurging in maternity clothes if you are pregnant, I'm so tired of wearing the same few outfits every week and so ready to wear my normal clothes again!

Thoughts: I have mixed feelings about being induced next week but will talk about that more in my 39 week post. I am GBS (Group B Strep) positive so knowing that I will receive the antibiotics that I need 4 hours before giving birth does give me a HUGE peace of mind and reassurance... silver linings I guess.

I took a breastfeeding class at our hospital this week. It was 3 hours long and very informative. I know that there will be lactation consultants after delivery for me to talk to and ask questions but considering I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing I figured it couldn't hurt to take the class. I'm so glad I did, I learned so much.

Here's to 2 more weeks down and ONE more to go!

A letter to my baby boy

Michael Austin,

The time is getting closer to when I finally get to hold you. I feel so close to you already but it will be different when I get to carry you in my arms and not just in my belly. There are so many things I want to tell you. I want to tell you that from the beginning you were always wanted. Your dad and I always wanted a baby boy, we called you "Little Mike" before you were even in my tummy. When I found out I was having you I already knew you were a boy. I'll always remember the first time I felt you kick, it felt like little butterflies in my stomach. I'll never forget that moment. Your kicks have gotten to be so much stronger. I can see your little feet poke out through my skin now. We are so excited that we get to meet you in just a few days.

You have already made me a better person. You have made me cherish the gift of life so much more and believe in miracles. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank God for being able to carry you inside of me. I have prayed for you and your health every single day since I knew I was growing you. You have truly been the best baby in my tummy. Because of you everyday I pray for women who are having a hard time having babies because I wish for them to be able to feel what I feel for you. I already can't imagine my life without you in it. You are one loved little boy by so many.

Your daddy is already so proud of you. He tells everyone how big and strong you are. As soon as the doctor gives us a new picture of you he sends it to everyone he can. He took a pair of your shoes out of your closet and put them next to his shoes in his closet. He is excited to put you in them soon. He talks about the baseball games that he wants to take you to. He wants to take you to $1 hotdog night at the Rangers ballpark, that is his favorite time. I can't wait to see your face when the planes fly over the ballpark or the first time you get to see the fireworks. Your dad talks about taking you wakeboarding on the boat when you are older and your first tube float down the Frio River. He really wants to see you jump off a rope swing into the water. I can wait for all of this, I'm not ready to see you that grown up yet. I'll always see you as my baby, but I promise to let you grow up. I promise to always keep you safe and I promise to always put you before myself. I promise you will always know how much I love you.

Your sisters are so ready to meet you. Miller lays in your nursery everyday. I think she knows you are coming soon. She's going to be very protective of you. So is your other sister Brittany. She loves babies. She is going to kiss you a lot and will never leave your side when she comes to visit. Little Ella is not sure what to think of you just yet. She knows you're in my tummy because she can feel your kicks at night when she is sleeping next to me. They love to go on walks and they are so excited for you to come with us.

There are so many people that cannot wait to see you. Your grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, & neighbors are all so excited to meet you. Everyone prays for you and sends your dad & I the nicest messages and most thoughtful gifts just for you. Your nursery is ready. We decorated it in a sports theme, mainly football and baseball because we think those will be your favorite. I love being in your room, even if I am just in there folding your clothes and blankets. Sometimes I just walk in there to imagine what it is going to be like when you are here. I can't believe you are ours and I absolutely cannot wait to hold you. I love you Michael Austin White.

Michael Austin White. Week 32 - 36

Baby & Doctor's Appointments: We were able to see our sweet boy on an ultrasound at our 32 week and 35 week appointments. At both appointments they measured him to get an estimated weight. At 32 weeks he was measuring at 5 lbs 8 oz and at 35 weeks he measured to be 7 lbs 8 oz. Wow! His weight at our 35 week appointment put him in the 89th percentile for fetal growth. Although these measurements aren't completely accurate we have a feeling he is going to be a big boy!

Symptoms & Sleep: Other than an occasional leg cramp here and there at night, I can't complain. I haven't had any 3rd trimester symptoms that I've read or heard about.

Everyone says "sleep now" and anyone who has ever been pregnant knows that at this point you're not sleeping. It's so hard to get into a comfortable sleeping position. I've been sleeping on my left side throughout my pregnancy. I'm so used to it that I don't even move throughout night.

Exercise: Enjoying my 2.5-3 mile daily walks even more this far along. Getting outside and feeling energized motivates me to stay healthy and (somewhat) fit.

Weight: I've been gaining a pound a week and sometimes even skipping a week of weight gain. This is totally normal so I'm not worried. At the beginning of my 34th week I weighed in at 134 lbs which is 28 pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Cravings/Food: I try to eat relatively healthy, but I do treat myself to my favorite meals or desserts weekly. Every Monday or Tuesday I eat at Chick-Fil-A. I order the same thing every time- chicken strips, waffle fries with a lemonade. I don't drink any diet drinks or light drinks because of the aspartame in them. I prefer real high calorie sugar :-D

Also I eat a serving of salmon a week for the DHA/Omega-3 goodness in it. Not to mention it's just straight up delicious! If you didn't know DHA helps build your baby's brain, nervous system and eyes. I've been eating a 6-8oz serving of recommended fish a week since I found out I was pregnant.

Clothes: I told myself I wasn't buying anymore maternity clothes. I have enough jeans, tops & dresses to get me by for the next few weeks. I'd much rather stock up on cute postpartum pj's and spring maxi dresses. Spring is my favorite season. I love the warm days and still cool nights. I couldn't have asked for a better season to celebrate Mikey's arrival!

Thoughts: I can't believe we get to finally meet our son next month! It still feels so surreal. I cannot wait to hold him. I think of putting him in his little onesies and being with him 24/7 all the time! I often catch myself daydreaming about our future trips to Austin or going to our river house in Concan. It'll be so different having a baby with us now, but of course I wouldn't want it any other way.

Michael Austin White. Week 29 - 31

Baby: Our baby boy is as big as an acorn squash and zucchini these weeks, measuring about 15.2-15.7 inches long.

He's also started having the hiccups! It's the cutest thing.

Symptoms & Sleep: Starting to get slightly uncomfortable! As baby is growing so is this belly and it's making it so much harder to turn and sleep comfortably at night.

Exercise: Still walking 4-5 times a week, about 2.5-3 miles a day.

Weight: At the end of my 30th week I am still at a 129 pounds, which is 23 pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Cravings/food: Eating tons of fruit, cereal and sandwiches. Staying hydrated drinking LOTS of water, milk & orange juice.

Doctor's appointments: None this week :-(

We did get to see our babe in 4D this weekend and it was an AMAZING experience! We loved it and were able to take home some really good pictures. Of course they are all either framed or up around the house. I can't get enough of seeing our little man!

Clothes: I bought a really cute top at Motherhood Maternity this week to wear for our Valentine's Day date. I've been loving this top but I could not bring myself to buy it for $68. It was on sale for $30 and they had one small left, it was like a sign that it needed to be mine.

Thoughts: I am so excited about our baby showers coming up in a few days! We have two in Austin on the same weekend then one here in Fort Worth a few weeks later. I am so excited to celebrate Mikey! I'll upload all of our shower pictures in my next post.

Michael Austin White. Week 27 + 28

Baby: Our baby boy is as big as lettuce and an eggplant these weeks, measuring about 14.4-14.8 inches long.

At my doctors appointment this week Michael Austin weighed 3 pounds & 10 ounces. He is measuring exactly 2 weeks ahead! My specialist said that this is the time that he should be gaining about half a pound a week until delivery. Enter the rapid growth phase!

Symptoms: Swelling in my lower legs and feet. This has only happened once and went away within an hour, I think it was just the way I was sitting without any support on my feet. Barstools without foot rests are no good for preggo women.

I still am having leg cramps at night but other than that I've been feeling great. No more heartburn!

Exercise: Walking 4-5 times a week, about 2.5-3 miles a day. I also have been doing squats and arm weights a few times a week.

I bought a "birthing ball" & I love it! It's basically like an exercise ball that you would find at the gym. You can use it through out pregnancy and during labor. I'm actually sitting on it right now as I write this post.

Weight: At the end of my 28th week I am at a 129 pounds, which is 23 pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Sleep: Not getting any better BUT I am learning to adjust. I still wake up 3 times a night to use the restroom and get woken up by leg cramps, but all of this is tolerable.

Cravings/food: Sub sandwiches and fruit! I love any sandwich from Firehouse Subs (which is my favorite), Jimmy John's & Schlotzsky's. I do ask them to heat the meat ;-)

Albertson's has the freshest fruit that I have found. I love their cantaloupe, watermelon and pineapple. I also buy bananas, oranges, and apples while I am there.

I drink a ton of water but also about 2 glasses of milk and orange juice a day.

Doctor's appointments: I saw my OB this week and he said that baby boy is already in the head down position. Of course he can flip back at anytime but right now that is just how he is comfortable.

I drank the glucose juice on the way to my appointment on Wednesday. They drew my blood an hour later and sent it to the lab. Late Friday afternoon my OB's nurse called and said that my glucose level was 99 while fasting so I am good to go, no gestational diabetes here.

I was SO excited to see my specialist on Friday. It has been almost 4 weeks since I had seen our little boy on an ultrasound, which is the longest we have gone between appointments. I asked the ultrasound technician how they are able to find out the baby's weight and she broke down the calculations for me. It's really cool how that do it and pretty accurate.

Thoughts: I can't believe that I am going into my 3rd and last trimester. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I saw that plus sign on my pregnancy test. It's crazy to think that in just a little over 2 months we finally get to meet our son. As of right now I have no fear about what labor might be like. I am not worried or do I feel uneasy. I feel hopeful that it will be a smooth and exciting delivery.

I highlighted this verse when Mike & I started "trying" to grow our family a year ago.
August 20th is the day I found out I was pregnant.
I'll add Michael Austin's birthday & highlight the following verse when that time comes...

Ordered this necklace from a shop on Etsy. Isn't it so cute? I love wearing it! It's tiny but Michael Austin is engraved across it with a little heart.

1.26.2017

Michael Austin White. Week 25 + 26

Baby: Our baby boy is the size of a cauliflower & a kale plant these weeks, measuring about 13.5-14 inches long. My apps say that he is estimated to weigh between 1.4-1.6 pounds right now, but we know that last week at 24 weeks he was already an even 2 pounds. Little chunk :-)

Symptoms: Off & on heartburn still creeping up on me. Leg cramps in the pm. Overall heavy pressure in my lower abdomen. Growing a baby is a lot of work! Having all of that extra weight around the core of my body has really thrown off my stability. I feel a little more clumsy than usual. I've caught the corners of counters and doors forgetting that my belly sticks out so far. It takes some extra time putting on shoes. Leaning over even while sitting down takes my breath away. I have to pee all the time. I try to drink 64+ ounces of water a day which leads to having a full bladder non-stop. It's crazy how pregnancy takes over your body and you just learn to adapt to the changes as they come along. I try not to complain because I am very thankful that my body is able to do this. To be able to grow my baby for 10 months is something I will never take for granted.

Exercise: Right now I'm just walking 2.5-3 miles 4-5 times a week. I can't wait for warmer weather!

Weight: Up 19 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Sleep: More on the leg cramps... I only seem to get cramps in my lower legs when I'm sleeping. They've woken me up in the middle of the night several times so far. I've had to get out of bed & jump around a bit or stretch and they seem to go away pretty quickly. I also drink a few ounces of water before trying to go back to sleep. I've heard this gets worse the farther along you are. I also eat at least one banana a day, sometimes two to help with this.

Cravings/food: I started craving Toaster Strudels for breakfast every morning. I eat a piece of fruit and drink a glass of orange juice as well with this new craving. This is also the time of day that I take my prenatal vitamin. Just to feel like there is some nutritional value in my choice of breakfast.

Doctor's appointments: I don't have an appointment scheduled with my OB or specialist until my 28th week. This is the longest gap I've had between appointments.

Clothes: I've picked up a few new maternity tops and jeans this week. I LOVE the maternity tanks from Target. They are great for layering and super comfortable to sleep in too! Jessica Simpson has the best fitting jeans I have found so far. I picked up these bootcut jeans (below)  from her line at Macy's. Macy's has a small Motherhood Maternity section and you can find some good deals on their clearance racks. I've snagged several $10 tops that are supposed to be great for nursing as well.

Thoughts: Throughout the past few weeks I have been buying nursery décor here and there. I've really started to get more and more recently. My family is coming up to visit the first weekend in February and we are going shopping for the crib, changing table, bedding & gliding chair. Ahhh, it's all starting to come together. I can't wait to see our sweet boy's nursery all set up!

These last few weeks have seemed to fly by and I couldn't be more excited. It just means we are one week closer to meeting our son!

Miller loves to lay in Mikey's nursery already! We both think that she is going to be a protective and good big sister to him.

Michael Austin White. Week 24

Baby: Our baby boy is the size of a cantaloupe this week. He is measuring about 11.8 inches long and weighing in at an even 2 pounds! He's developing a sleep and wake cycle and even yawns. As his brain grows more and more complex he has started developing memory and thoughts.

Symptoms: No new symptoms this week.

Weight: Up 17 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. Woohoo, baby boy is growing bigger and bigger!

Sleep: Oh sleep, how I already miss you. It's hard to get comfortable during night with a belly in the way but I'm starting to get used to it. Still sleeping on my left side and waking up 2-3 times during the night to pee.

Doctor's appointments: This week I had an appointment with my OB on Wednesday and with my specialist on Friday.

My OB appointments are super quick. I see my doctor for maybe 10 minutes at the most. At this appointment I was given the glucose juice to drink an hour before my next appointment with him (at 28 weeks) to test for gestational diabetes. I asked him the cut off point for travel (34 weeks), he listened to baby's heartbeat with the fetal doppler and I was out.

At my appointment with my specialist she did the routine transvaginal ultrasound to measure my cervical length, which is still measuring normal. They also did several measurements of baby's extremities, head, and heart. They told us that little Michael Austin was an even 2 pounds already, wow! We also got our best yet ultrasound picture, check out his little face below.

Cravings/food: I was craving Italian food on New Years Day. Any pasta sounded delicious! So we went to Macaroni Grill and it did not disappoint. I told Mike we should make eating Italian food a New Years Day tradition. I am so excited for our new family traditions :-)

Clothes: I am currently obsessed with www.pinkblushmaternity.com They have the cutest maternity clothes! I've ordered from them a few times and my order ships right away, sometimes even the same day. Tax free, free shipping & great sales. What more could you ask for?

Thoughts: I am so happy to finally be in my 6th month of pregnancy. Not only that but the 24th week is a big milestone in fetal viability. This is often called "viability week". Meaning at 24 weeks your baby is considered viable, he or she has a greater chance of survival (70% according to my specialist)  if born at this time. As a first time mom pre-term labor is often on my mind. Everyone says to just enjoy your pregnancy and not worry about things like that. It's hard not to let it cross your mind, especially if you like to read a lot like I do and come across these kind of articles or stories.

One of the most comforting things I have found to do during this time is just to pray. If I start to feel anxious about anything I just stop and pray about it. I remind myself that I have no control over what is meant to happen. I believe that God has a specific plan for Michael Austin. After all it was Him who blessed us with this sweet boy when the time was right. I've learned that peace of mind can be found in prayer.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God will guard your heart and mind in Jesus."

1.16.2017

Michael Austin White. Week 23

Baby: Our baby boy is the size of a grapefruit this week. He is measuring about 11.3 inches long and weighing in at 1.10 pounds. His face is fully formed now and he is also forming little nipples. His lungs are starting to produce surfactant, which will help prep him for breathing air on the outside. He may now startle at loud noises and respond by turning his head, the nerve endings in his inner ear are now fully developed.

Symptoms: I had my first Braxton Hicks contraction this week and oh man was it intense! It only lasted a few seconds but wow, it took my breath away.

I had a surge of hormones take over my body this week. I had TERRIBLE heartburn for about 2 hours one night. It started around 11pm. I paced around the room just waiting for it to go away. I tried drinking milk and just stood there with tears in my eyes hoping it would stop so I could go to sleep, I was so tired. I finally gave in and took 2 Tums and guess what? It went away within 10 minutes. I'm so stubborn about taking any meds. I need to remember that we were given meds like this for a reason.

Weight: I actually lost 3 pounds this week. I wasn't feeling so good from being nauseated and having heartburn. I drank a lot of water and tried to stay hydrated but it was hard for me to eat like I normally do. I ate light meals and snacks throughout the day, nothing sounded good.

Sleep: Sleep deprived! Having nighttime heartburn makes it incredibly hard to sleep. Elevating my head and shoulders on pillows did help though.

Cravings/food: Nothing seemed to sound good this week. I was just so nauseous and dizzy that I ate really bland foods. My appetite came back in full force come the weekend though. Thank goodness!

Clothes: Still living in my same two maternity skinny jeans and leggings. I really need to get a new pair, just so I have something different to wear.

Thoughts: Christmas Day and New Years Eve were both in my 23rd week. Both holidays were emotional days for me. Happy emotions of course. I couldn't help but think how different it will be next year. Michael Austin will be 8 months next Christmas. I can't wait to decorate the house and tree with him right next to us. He'll have his own stocking and we'll begin our own new family Christmas traditions. I had tears in my eyes when the clock hit midnight on New Years Eve. I couldn't believe 2017 was already here, the year that our son will be born. I didn't last long after midnight... I was in my pj's with lavender oil in my diffuser and in bed reading by 12:30am. There isn't anywhere else I would have rather been.

Michael Austin White. Week 22

Baby: Our baby boy is the size of a coconut this week. He is measuring about 10.9 inches long and weighing in at 15.1 ounces. He is sleeping in cycles of 12-14 hours per day. He is growing eyebrows, lashes and perhaps has the first signs of hair. His hearing is so developed that he can now pick up sounds inside my body- like my heartbeat, breathing & stomach gurgling.

Symptoms: I've really started to look and feel pregnant this week! I feel like I've hit a milestone in my pregnancy. My belly definitely has started to look more fuller- finally. I'm ready for my bump to start growing bigger & bigger!

Weight: I forgot to weigh myself this week :-/

Sleep: I bought an extra pillow to put between my knees when I sleep. I sleep on my left side with two pillows under my head/shoulders to keep me slightly elevated to try and avoid as much nightly heartburn as possible. Despite how cold it's been (we keep our heat at 70 degrees at night) I've been waking up with the blankets off of me, these crazy hormones make me so hot.

Cravings/food: No new cravings. I eat 3 meals a day with healthy snacks (usually fruit) in between. Oh and I have to have a bowl of cereal every night before bed!

Clothes: As of right now I just have 2 pairs of maternity jeans & a few maternity tops. I've bought a few new "flowy" tops and just went up a size, that way I can still wear them post pregnancy.

Thoughts/ideas: I'm recreating a Pinterest project that I saw a few weeks ago. It's a diaper cart for my office upstairs. Michael Austin's nursery is right at the bottom of the stairs so I just plan on filling it with necessities. I posted the picture below to my Facebook page and Instagram account and got SO many great responses from moms about things that I REALLY need in it. Now I'm wishing I would have got a bigger cart :-D

Michael Austin White. Week 21

Baby: Our baby boy is the size of a carrot this week. He is measuring about 10.5 inches long and weighing in at 12.7 ounces. His digestive system is getting ready for being outside of the womb, he's making meconium, the tarry black substance that will be in his first dirty diaper. His testes are still in his abdomen but will drop in the coming weeks once the scrotum finishes developing.

Symptoms: Lots of pressure! My the inside of my stomach feels like it's being pulled apart, like a straining feeling. Although this feeling is a little painful it makes me happy to know that it just means our little boy is growing bigger and stronger.

Doctor's appointments: I had an unexpected OB appointment on Friday. Thursday evening I was feeling discomfort in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen, I could feel a knot/ball right under my skin. I called my doctor first thing Friday morning and his nurse told me to come in as soon as I could. They did an ultrasound to determine if it was just baby's elbow that I could feel or a fibroid. As it turns out it was a 2cm fibroid and my doctor said that since I'm so small framed that's why I can see and feel it. He said it's common for women about this time to develop fibroids from the ligaments/muscle layers stretching and growing. As soon as I deliver it will shrink drastically in size but will always be there.

Weight: Up another pound from last week... grow baby grow!

Sleep: Needing a lot more it! I'm still sleeping well and only waking up 2-3 times a night to use the restroom.

Cravings: Just food! Nothing in particular. I'm waking up hungry which is new for me. I usually don't eat breakfast until around 9am but my stomach is already growling when my feet hit the ground which is usually by 7am.

Clothes: Wearing my maternity jeans or leggings everyday. I love the elastic on the sides of maternity tops, they are definitely my favorite. All of my pre-pregnancy tops still fit fine though so I just go back and forth between the two.

Thoughts: We were in Austin this weekend for my brothers graduation. Mike booked my most favorite hotel ever for our trip, Lonestar Court in the domain. I love it there. The rooms (& beds) are comfy, they have a breakfast buffet that is really good, it's pet-friendly and is walking distance to many shops and restaurants. On Saturday night after all of the graduation festivities we went back to our hotel and I took a long much needed nap. I woke up at close to 9pm and we walked over to the new Nordstrom and then grabbed a late night bite at The Yard House. Nordstrom had so many cute baby clothes on sale. Mike was really excited to buy Michael Austin his first (from him) tees & onesies... you can check out one of  his new tees below.
